Bloomsburg Loses to Kutztown in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team placed four players in double figures in a 73-62 loss to Kutztown on Wednesday night in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup.
The Huskies held an early 10-6 lead in the game after a layup from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) with 14:20 to play in the half. After Kutztown rallied and grabbed a 17-15 lead with 7:01 to play, the team's traded leads for the remainder of the half before the Huskies went into the break with a 31-28 advantage.
In the second, the Huskies opened play by going on an 8-2 run, including five by Kait Urban (Johnstown/Westmont) to go in front 39-30. But, Kutztown rallied with an 10-0 run to take the lead at 40-39.
Kutztown then either led or was tied for much of the next seven minutes before going in front by six, 61-55, with 3:10 to play. Down the stretch, the Golden Bears hit 10 of 12 free throws and won going away.
Bloomsburg, 3-13, 0-2 in the PSAC East, got 18 points from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) and 12 from Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens). Laura Lyons (Hatfield/Pennridge) and Kegerreis each added 11.
Kutztown, 10-6, 2-0 in the PSAC East, was led by Rachel Weidensaul with 17 points, while Mercedes Van Wagner added 12.
Bloomsburg will play at Cheyney on Saturday at 1 p.m.
